Responsibilities
Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Woodlands Parkway is a physician-led outpatient surgery center offering high-quality, patient-centered care in a warm, personalized setting. We specialize in a range of same-day surgical procedures, including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management, podiatry, and more. Our goal is to provide efficient care with an exceptional patient experience — all close to home in The Woodlands.
We are proudly partnered with United Surgical Partners International (USPI), a leader in short-stay surgical facilities. With USPI, our team benefits from national resources, clinical best practices, and a strong culture of collaboration, while maintaining a local, patient-first focus. USPI facilities are known for their physician engagement, clinical quality, and team-oriented environments.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures in a safe and timely manner
- Monitor patient condition pre- and post-operatively, including vital signs, pain levels, and overall stability
- Administer IV fluids, medications, and pre-op treatments as ordered
- Provide age-appropriate education and discharge instructions to patients and caregivers
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure smooth case transitions and readiness
- Accurately document nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the EMR
- Respond promptly to emergencies and implement appropriate nursing interventions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment
- Follow all infection control, safety, and patient privacy protocols
Required Skills:
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking
- Strong communication and patient education abilities
- Adaptability and readiness to float between Pre-Op and PACU areas
- Calm under pressure and responsive in emergent situations
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organization
- Works well in a collaborative, team-based environment
Required Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Pre-Op and/or PACU nursing role
- Experience in an ambulatory surgery center or acute care setting strongly preferred
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in fast-paced or emergent situations
- Skilled in post-anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery assessments
- Comfortable assisting with airway management and post-op pain control
- Knowledge of EMR systems and post-anesthesia documentation requirements
- Previous experience educating patients and families on discharge plans
