Responsibilities
PRN: PreOp PACU
Kimel Park Surgery Center is seeking a gifted PRN Pre-Op PACU RN to join our team. Kimel Park Surgery Center is a fast paced multi-specialty surgery center committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families. Our center specializes in the surgical procedures: orthopedics, spine, podiatry, ENT, and ophthalmology.
Position Overview: As a Preoperative and PACU RN you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our surgical patients. You will work closely with the surgical team to prepare patients for their procedures, monitor their recovery in the PACU, and provide excellent patient care throughout their surgical journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Preoperative:
- Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, including reviewing medical history, allergies, medications, and vital signs.
- Educate patients and their families about the surgical process, expectations, and post-operative care.
- Ensure patients are properly prepared for surgery, including verifying informed consent.
- Administer preoperative medications and start IV lines as needed.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize patient readiness for surgery.
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU):
- Care for patients recovering from surgery, including monitoring vital signs and assessing the patient's condition.
- Administer medications and interventions as prescribed to manage pain and discomfort.
- Ensure a smooth transition from the operating room to the PACU.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the recovery process.
- Document patient care accurately and maintain detailed records.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to facilitate patient discharge or transfer to the next level of care.

Required Skills:
- Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in NC
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must have at least 1-3 years' previous experience in PreOP/PACU
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is ideal
- Must have current BLS certification
- Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
- Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
- Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians.
