Responsibilities
The Physical Therapist Assistant implements established physical therapy plans of care and provides physical therapy treatments to patients in order to facilitate increased independence and functioning under the supervision of a Licensed Physical Therapist.

The following description of the job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the primary responsibilities of the job but are not intended to describe all duties other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
- Implements patient’s individualized treatment plan as defined by the primary Physical Therapist.
- Must consult with supervising Physical Therapist with any/all changes in a patient’s functional/medical status.
- Provides individualized physical therapy treatment including modalities and exercises (as outlined by the primary Physical Therapist).
- Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist when the Physical Therapist is performing tests, evaluations, and complex procedures.
- Instructs patients, families and other caregivers in the skills and techniques of the physical therapy treatment program under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
- Consults with other members of the care team to select the most appropriate activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each patient.
- Maintains appropriate and timely patient documentation for all patients treated.
- Attends and contributes to patient care, staffing conferences and other related facility meetings.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Cleans, maintains, identifies and reports the need for repair of equipment as necessary.
- Puts customer service first: ensures that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individual’s needs and rights.
- Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches.
- Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Is knowledgeable about and responsive to emergency situations.
- Reports and completes appropriate forms for incidents related to patients, visitors and employees.
- Readies the area to ensure patient safety during hospital stay and therapy sessions.
- Demonstrates willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
Required Experience:
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program certified by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Must be licensed and/or eligible for licensure as required in the state of practice.
Maintains continuing education credits as required by the State
Current BLS certification
